Sitka Center Eco-Art

I was selected to be an artist and scientist in the art residency program at the Sitka Center during the fall of 2021. The Sitka is an inspiring place for living art and ecology, including rainforests and coastal watersheds. While there, I enjoyed every moment, feeling productive and empowered as an interdisciplinary artist. The new contemporary artworks I have created use water-based oil painting, Chinese ink, mixed media collage with natural imprints and objects, as well as upcycled materials.

These artworks reflect symbiotic interactions and ecological functions of plants and biological communities in the rain forest, including:

  • Alder forest leaves and trees for photosynthesis

  • Carbon offset, nitrogen fixation

  • Mycorrhizal Mushroom for nutrient uptake and soil ecosystem connections

  • Endangered salmon and habitat restoration in Salmon River Estuary
